An Afternoon Nap Improves Learning Capacity

I'm sure you are all well aware that students do not learn as well in afternoon lessons. Why this happens is a bit clearer now, thanks to a new study by Matthew Walker and his colleagues from the University of Berkley. They also suggest that If you want to improve your ability to learn in the afternoon, you should have a siesta during your lunch break.

Sweet Smelling Dreams

Many years ago Dement and Wolpert (1958) sprayed sleeping participants with water and found that they dreamed of waterfalls and leaky roofs. Now new research has shown that what you smell as you sleep has the power to influence your dreams. Functions of Sleep

A study published this week in PLoS Biology by Chiara Cirelli and Giulio Tononi addresses the question "what are the functions of sleep?"
A2 Psychology students taking the Unit 4 option "Biological Rhythms, Sleep and Dreaming" may be interested that biologists at the University of Virginia have discovered a switching mechanism in the eye that plays a key role in regulating the sleep/wake cycles in mammals.
New research examining the function of sleep has revealed that one function of sleep may be to consolidate memories of the emotionally important aspects of events.
